Present technical possibilities to limit CO2 emission from coal-fired power plants
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 395
Limitation of CO2 emission was one of the main problems of the 20th World Energy Congress in Rome. Included are many data needed for analysis of possibility to create the emission reduction program in Poland. Ascertained is that on the present technical level the significant CO2 emission reduction is possible only through chemical absorption of the CO2 contained in boilers' flue gases or through coal gasification. Described are possibilities and consequences of selected IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) blocks adaptation to CO2 reduction. In case of these blocks implementation of CO2 emission reduction process will cause the increase of electric energy cost by 30–40%.

Problems relating to exploitation of composite insulators
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 412
Discussed are problems which can occur during exploitation and storage of composite insulators: biological growth, changes of insulators' surface colour and hazards caused by some species of birds and rodents. The problems are usually less known and have not been described in Polish literature so far.

Possibilities of firedamp management for energy purposes in Poland
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 416
Short survey of firedamp management for energy purposes is made. Discussed are specific qualities of this fuel, its management methods being in use and also its technical, environmental and economic effects. Presented is state of the gas utilization in Poland and in the world. Firedamp burning, if methane were included into emission trade system as a hothouse gas would be very profitable. Emphasized is that methane gas is not acknowledged as renewable fuel.

Calculation algorithm of thermodynamic and economic modernization of 380 MW power block by adding a gas turbine
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 427
A very important modernization potential of the domestic power industry are the so-called clean coal technologies based on gas turbines and characterized by relatively high energy effectiveness and low emission of pollutants to the environment. They are, among the others, double-fuel gas-and-steam technologies and coal-and-gas systems coupled in series or parallel. The systems, what is really important, can be created on basis of the presently existing coal structures by adding a gas turbine. In practice, the parallel system is more energetically and economically effective method of a power plant modernization. That is why for such a system a mathematical model of a power block was elaborated enabling the analysis of its energetic and economic modernization effectiveness and selection of a gas TG power unit optimum power.

Substantial aspects of erecting IOS (Flue Gas Desulphurization Installation) installation for Elektrownia „Ostrołęka B" power blocks in the context of servicing as the Contract Engineer
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 437
Presented are relations and cooperation conditions of Energopomiar as the Contract Engineer with main participants of the recently accomplished investment process in the light of previous building experience. The attention is paid to the most often occurring problems making the cooperation difficult and having particular influence on such a service effectiveness as well as on preparation and carrying on the investment process by the Investor.

Compatibility assessment and certification of products
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 440
Specified are principles concerning obligatory compatibility assessment of hazardous products or the ones serving protection of life, property and environment with requirements specified in decrees (directives) issued by proper ministers. Presented is, carried on for many years in Energopomiar, voluntary certification of electropower devices' usefulness and the presently carried on product certification as the already accredited by PCA certifying unit.

Adaptive automation system AFLS
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 443
In everyday's practice of big industrial plants' supply system exploitation more and more influence is exerted on quality of electric energy supply (voltage quality, supply reliability). Present power sector situation (disintegration, deregulation, competition) puts in a new light the problem of industrial plants' power safety. Discussed are possibilities of defending a plant power system against supply failures. Presented is the structure, principle of operation and practical application of automation systems helping to defend a plant against the loss of voltage.

Exploitation experience and directions of light cable arc protection modernization
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 447
Presented are two types of arc protection systems produced by „Energotest-Energopomiar´Sp. z o.o. Discussed is exploitation experience which was a source of data for improving construction and functioning of these protections. Examples show that there is a possibility of reliable protection of open- and close-type switchgears and transformer substations. The attention is paid to these protections' application advisability – with a view to decrease hazards for servicing personnel's life and health as well as to minimize losses caused by arc faults.

Reflections on complex modernization of the Silesia region heat supply system
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 454
Creation of the SILESIA agglomeration structure should include energy management, particularly heat engineering. The specialized power engineering companies from the Silesia region put forward an initiative to analyse the existing status, to make a multifaceted assessment of this problem and to specify conclusions which should be a basis for modernization and development projects. Presented is the scope of two preliminary studies as well as additional issues concerning the coherence of energy management with waste management and environmental targets. Remark about the passing possibility to integrate heat generation companies into one stable business structure arises from the fact that 80% of heat generating assets in the considered region still belong to the State Treasury or to the Communes. Specified are features and possibilities of such a structure as well as benefits derived from integration serving the common good.
Słowa kluczowe: creation of Silesia heat supply system, energy management modernization

Polish government power policy in future
Energetyka 2008, nr 6, s. 458
Discussed are problems which the Polish power industry will have to face in future. On the one hand the essential limitations arise from available power generation capabilities, from the other – predicted rapid economic growth of the country will result in substantial power demand increase. It is expected that the increasing power demand will soon exceed capabilities of the ageing power plants. Polish government power policy in the past years was focused on maintaining low electric energy prices and reducing power plants' influence on the environment while the problem of building new power units was practically not taken into consideration. Also we must remember of the UE environmental policy which has a big influence on power industry strategy. Pressure on limiting pollution – especially CO2 emission – increases. Trying to meet the obligatory UE directive concerning the integrated pollution prevention and limitation (control) requirements by applying the best available technology – BAT) would be possible if a plant efficiency and the economic aspect were considered simultanously. Presented is the governmental policy as well as predicted influence of both existing status and expected limitations on the future electric energy balance in Poland.
