Katowice Area Dispatching Centre – yesterday and now
Energetyka 2008, nr 7, s. 487
When PSE-Południe Sp. z o.o. was founded, one of its parts was also the Operator Service Department being the successor of first the Regional and then the Area Dispatching Centre existing from 1948 in regional power industry structures. Main tasks of the ADC are: ensuring unfailing work of a transmission grid as well as rational and effective organization of grid operation, ensuring operational discipline, being ready to realize the area power system defence and restoration plans, realization of tasks charged by Transmission System Operator etc. The 110 kV network coordinated by Katowice ADC is the property of: ENION Grupa Tauron SA, EnergiaPro Grupa Tauron SA and Vattenfall Distribution Poland SA.

Experience in thermovision diagnosis of power installations with special regard to surge arresters
Energetyka 2008, nr 7, s. 497
Thermovision diagnosis of spark surge arresters with the use of modern
thermovision systems can be treated as the supplementary one for traditionally carried out measurements while in case of modern, non-spark surge arresters as a basic one together with the method of leakage current measurement. Discussed is experience gained during carrying out thermovision diagnosis of 400, 220 and 110 kV surge arresters in PSE-Południe SA.

Feeding of secondary circuits with guaranteed voltage as an example of susceptibility to continuity of power supply
Energetyka 2008, nr 7, s. 508
Presented is solution of a problem referring to secondary circuits feeding boiler unit auxiliaries drives in one of power plants in southern Poland. Secondary circuits, i.e. control and alarm circuits of the boiler unit, are fed from a power cubicle of 230 V/AC guaranteed voltage, because – concerning the specific character of their work – they need reliable power supply. The solution was applied during boiler unit BC50 modernization in the power plant mentioned above. One of the elements of 50 MW block overhaul was replacement of the existing switchgears and cables including the switchgear feeding boiler auxiliaries. Main stress is laid on presentation and description of feeding secondary circuits of these drives.

Optimization of reagent dosage systems in the aspect of water conditioning in power industry
Energetyka 2008, nr 7, s. 513
Increase of society consciousness concerning consequences of waste disposal with no protective measures resulted in implementation of more and more rigorous requirements that companies – power industry among the others - must meet. It can be done in two ways: limit the amount of chemicals used for conditioning or invest into installations having in task minimalizing the influence of chemically active wastes on the environment. The most advantageous, from ecological and economic point of view, is minimalizing – with the help of properly controlled treatment system – the amount of substances applied for water conditioning with the simultaneous ensuring high efficiency of the process.

Reasons and possible results of electric energy price increase
Energetyka 2008, nr 7, s. 520
Presented are many reasons of the present and expected electric energy cost increase against a background of conditions resulting from the state of our economy. Everybody will have to pay for the years with regulated and lowered prices in power industry and the period of underinvestment. Rise in prices of electric energy will undoubtedly have influence on increase of costs in industry and at household consumers. Time will show if the possible recession can take place. In Poland we have to little power reserves.

Properties of wood stored in dumps in the open air
Energetyka 2008, nr 7, s. 536
With the moment of entering the UE, Polish power plants using coal as a fuel were obliged to keep upper limits of the amount of chemical compounds and elements which can be emitted into the atmosphere during a year. With the aim to decrease the emission of harmful compounds, more and more popular fuel in power plants becomes ecological biomass. One of the problems concerning storage of big amounts of biomass is self-ignition and how to counteract it. Results of self-ignition are both energy and financial losses. Given are informations concerning self-heating of wood chips and its reasons. Presented are places in a fuel dump where self-ignition can occur, processes taking place in wet wood chips being stored in dumps and stages of biomass self-heating, eventually leading to self-ignition.
