British and American Unit System in the Contemporary World
Energetyka 2004, No. 5, p. 255, 3 figs, 14 refs
A genesis of the metric unit system is described. Mentioned are essential units of the British and American unit system and derivative units of this system. The way of transition from the British unit system to the metric one is given. A coexistence of the both systems and related problems is described. There is stated that although the metric system proves its technologic prevalence over other unit systems, including the British unit system, it is not unusual that British unit system is still approved by great social groups.

Economic Effect of Regenerative Heating of Feed Water in Power Stations
Energetyka 2004, No. 5, p. 266, 2 tabs, 2 refs
Presented calculation method of energetic and economic effects of regenerative heating of the feed water can serve for size optimisation of heating surfaces in particular regenerative heaters and even for optimisation of whole regenerative heating system. The method enable to avoid examining the influence of the regeneration on the whole power unit efficiency.

Use of Combustion By-products from the Rybnik Power Station at Road Construction
Energetyka 2004, No. 5, p. 269
(Bulletin of the ZPBE Energopomiar p. 21), 5 figs, 4 tabs, 12 refs
Investigations conducted on the order of the Rybnik Power Station concerning the possibility of the use of ashes from semi-dry flue gas de-sulphurisation and slag from this power station are discussed. Presented are results of laboratory investigations and next results of tests in situ of experimental road sectors. They enabled technical approval for the concrete made of these wastes for such elements of roads, like an improved road bed layer and essential or auxiliary substructures.

In Search for Possibilities of Lowering the Boiler Technical Minimum
Energetyka 2004, No. 5, p. 274
(Bulletin of the ZPBE Energopomiar p. 26), 7 figs, 4 tabs, 4 refs
Theoretical relations concerning the circulation of the working medium in the steam generator as a criterion of safe operation of the pressurised boiler part are discussed. Presented are investigations of chosen boiler - measurement methodology, results, conclusions and recommendations. At this background are deliberated factors, connected with design, way of operation and technical state of the boiler, influencing the level of the technical minimum.

Investigation of Capacitors Steering the Potential of HV Circuit Breaker Chambers
Energetyka 2004, No. 5, p. 283
(Bulletin of the ZPBE Energopomiar p. 35), 4 tabs, 4 refs
Discussed are menaces for the technical state of capacitors with special consideration of vibrations occurring during the connection operations. Presented is a test methodology of the capacitors in a high voltage laboratory. Given are results and conclusions concerning tests of great series of capacitors. The purposefulness of such investigations is underlined.

Review of Actual Methods of Chemical Cleaning and Etching the Power Boilers
Energetyka 2004, No. 5, p. 285
(Bulletin of the ZPBE Energopomiar p. 37), 3 figs, 8 refs
Methods of chemical cleaning and etching the boilers which enable the great cost lowering of these undertakings are discussed. Presented technologies enable to assure an efficiency of cleaning processes, safety of cleaned equipment and minimisation of environment burdening with wastes.

Extension of a Coal Fuelled Municipal Heating Station by a Co-Generation System with the Gas Turbine or Piston Engine. Technical and Economic Analysis
Energetyka 2004, No. 5, p. 289
The paper is devoted to the problem of extension of existing coal fuelled heating station with a co-generation gas module. An technical and economic analysis giving a possibility of assessment of purposefulness of such projects is conducted. The attention is paid to the most important factors influencing the energetic and ecological effects as well as profitability of the investment.
